Tonight, I’m back in Noge again!
Am I actually getting any work done…?
I’ve been to Noge so many nights in a row that even I’m starting to worry (lol).
And once again, I’m here with one of our staff!
#OurStaff
Since he’s a Noge first-timer, we met at the JR Sakuragicho Station ticket gate.
#ApparentlyHisFirstTimeInNoge…
Sakuragicho Station used to have both the Toyoko Line and JR, and until recently there was only one ticket gate, so giving directions is kind of a hassle.
#JustMyPersonalImpression
I picked him up safely, and we headed to Pio City, aka “the Noge Labyrinth.” It’s a sacred place for daytime drinking. This underground mall has been just as shady as it was when I was a kid, and it sits in a key spot connecting Noge, Sakuragicho, the subway and JR.
Rain, wind, snow or typhoon, the Noge Labyrinth never budges. Please come and visit!
So the two of us stepped into “Mazume.”
Mazume has a mysterious system: the more sours you drink, the cheaper they get. Their fish snacks are well known too.
By the way, once the price had dropped all the way, it was 199 yen a glass.
#IfIRememberCorrectly
Once we’d warmed up at the first place, we headed out into the heat for spot number two and finally set foot in the Noge area itself. Since it was his first time, I wanted to keep the tour gentle…
On top of that, everywhere was crowded at that hour, so we checked in at Sanyo, a famous Noge spot with a fairly big space where you can also drink outside. Their famous gyoza, negi-tori (chicken with green onions), and the obligatory first beer just show up without you even ordering, which makes life easy. Their “Bakudan” (the Bomb) is also the perfect snack to blow away the summer fatigue.

The owner, known as “Namakura Ken,” came out to see us too. He chatted with us and even took photos together.
#ByTheWay, I believe it’s a three-star “Kitanaschelin” restaurant (the TV show’s ranking of shabby-but-delicious joints).
He always remembers me as “the Y-Ko Rowing Club guy.”
It’s also a place full of memories, because my father used to bring me here when I was a kid.
Sometimes he calls me “Oshima-kun”…
For the record, Oshima-kun is actually Sato-senpai, my upperclassman from the Y-Ko Rowing Club, but I’ll explain that later.
So… more to come…
I’m getting a little tipsy now (lol).
